Wall Street Journal’s Joseph Epstein published an article claiming that Jill Biden’s Doctorate of Education degree was not enough to warrant having “Dr.” in her title.

There are obviously different degrees out there. When comparing a PhD and EdD for example, the PhD is generally considered more prestigious as it takes longer to complete and requires original research. However, I do think an EdD deserves it’s own value. Their fundamental objectives are rather different, making it difficult to compare. The decision really depends on the student to see which educational pathway is best for them to pursue.

But that’s not why I wanted to bring this up.

Lots of people, especially on Twitter, reacted with strong emotions to this opinion. Some agreed with the article and went on the offensive, while others took it up to defend Dr. Biden from the scrutiny. What we see is a chaotic fight on social media that goes back and forth until everyone eventually forgets about it.

But this is actually a perfect opportunity for The Wall Street Journal. Do you think they really care about all the negativity they just got? NOT AT ALL. Bad publicity is still publicity, and I guarantee you this author got them millions of views. Money in the bank, even if it breeds hatred.

Given that Dr. Biden is the wife of the new President-Elect Joe Biden, it makes perfect sense as to why all this blew up. People either hate or support the Democratic candidate, which means they’ll latch onto anything related to them, even their significant others. Barbaric, but that’s politics.

If you have been influenced by Joseph Epstein and his article, then you fell right into their trap! The Wall Street Journal is now a big point of discussion in our lives, which inevitably brings in more traffic and viewers to their brand. They’re loving every bit of it, but are you?
